If you look at the game between the Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies, you may notice that the Grizzlies, at one time, were in a lot of ways like Sacramento.
The Grizzlies were once young, talented yet unfocused at times. Meanwhile, that’s where the Kings are at right now – young, talented and unfocused.
Fast-forward to the present and you’ll notice that Memphis is in the Western Conference playoff chase while Sacramento is pretty much out of it already and playing out the string and looking forward to next year.
In any case, both teams square off at FedEx Forum in Memphis in what is the last game of the Kings’ seven-game road trip.
Sacramento is averaging about 98 PPG while Memphis is somewhere in the middle at 100 PPG; how that translates in terms of the final score is anyone’s guess, but this could be one of those games where the contest is neither low- or high-scoring. It’s really hard to say, despite the fact that the Memphis has more offensive weapons.
The Kings are allowing 103 PPG while the Grizzlies are giving up around 98, so first glance says that Memphis plays better defense.
A good matchup to watch for tonight is the one between Marc Gasol and DeMarcus Cousins as we’re talking about here a pair of centers who have two different offensive skill sets. Gasol is a lot like his brother, but on a lesser scale while Cousins is obviously more athletic.
Also worth checking out is Omri Casspi against Tony Allen at small forward. I think Omri should be able to exploit Allen’s inability to keep up with fellow SF’s; don’t be surprised if Casspi gets a good number of 3-pointers to fall tonight.
The Kings last met the Grizzlies on December 29, 2010, with Sacramento escaping Arco Arena with a 100-98 win as Tyreke Evans drained a 3 at the buzzer.
So to summarize, with both teams being pretty young, look for a high amount of turnovers from both sides. The team that can maximize their offense from those turnovers will probably win this one, In this case, the Kings should pull this one out.
Projected Kings Starting Lineup:
PG: Beno Udrih
SG: Jermaine Taylor
SF: Omri Casspi
PF: Jason Thompson
C: DeMarcus Cousins
Final Score: Sacramento 106, Memphis 96
