Leonard And Vesely Better Prospects Than Walker And Fredette?

They Desire Him Over Kemba And Jimmer?

It can be said, that the Sacramento Kings need a forward more than they need a guard.  However, are they in a position to draft need over best player available?  That’s a luxury for some teams; but for a cellar dwelling, 24-58 squad in the Pacific Division?

More importantly, is San Diego State forward Kawhi Leonard or even the “Dunking Ninja” (Jan Vesely) worthy of the seventh pick?

I much rather go for the exciting “three point shot” rather than the conventional “deuce” if I’m GM Geoff Petrie.  It’s time to roll the dice – no reason to play it “safe” if you are Petrie.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld, with the intriguing draft talk buzzing out of Sacramento:

I’m told that they really like Kawhi Leonard and Jan Vesley, with both of those players ahead of Kemba Walker and Jimmer Fredette on their big board despite the recent hype surrounding the Kemba-Jimmer workout.

From what I’ve been hearing, I thought Jimmer was a stone-cold lock at No. 7 for the Kings.

If not the deadly sharpshooting Fredette, than the killer-quick guard from Connecticut.  Imagine for a moment, a dynamic backcourt of Evans-Fredette!  Even better, a Walker-Evans duo!  How would you guard that in the Western Conference?

Needless to say, the Kings are looking for players who will compliment Tyreke, and fit in nicely with him.  They don’t want guys who will take away from his touches.  Drafting Walker or Fredette, a guard like Evans, may not help him reach his full potential.  Actually, they may hinder him from doing so.  Not buying it.

Little do they see the BYU legend playing off of Evans’ superb playmaking ability, making him an even more dangerous threat as a ballhandler.  And with UConn’s finest, he can play the point quite well, putting Evans back to his original position – shooting guard.  By selecting one of the guards, you will be living at the charity stripe on a nightly basis.

In the end, you would like to believe that the front office of Sacramento would go for the best player available over need, that is, if they envision themselves contending for a spot in the Playoffs next season.  High hopes.  It’s certainly the route you would like to see the team travel, if you’re a fan of the Kings.

I think Geoff Petrie has done a credible job as GM of the Kings. He has made some great draft picks, and hopefully he will make the right decision this season as well. Stuck with the 7th pick in what most are calling a weak draft is not an enviable position. But Petrie has an eye for young talent. Hopefully he will be able to use this pick either to draft a player or trade for a player that will make a difference.

The New York City Point Guard and Tournament Legend Kemba Walker would be my first choice at #7. Second, I’d go Jimmer.

What do you think about Parker or Felton for 7 and Casspi?
